Fifth-Grade Sign-Up for Band or Choir

Do you know a fifth-grader who loves to sing or wants to learn how to play an instrument? Band and choir are two super fun activities and students may begin participation in them as sixth-graders. (They do not have to come to school early or stay after to take part.)

Mr. Lathe, Sauk Rapids-Rice Middle School choir director, and Ms. Planer, Sauk Rapid-Rice Middle School band director, encourage ALL fifth-graders to consider joining band and choir. Ms. Planer has been visiting all fifth-grade classrooms during the past few weeks to help students learn about the programs.

How do students sign-up for band and choir?

Choir Sign-Up
Families should watch their email in-boxes for more information about choir sign-up in the coming weeks.

Band Sign-Up
Although Ms. Planer is not able to offer band instrument fittings or tryouts in person this spring, students may select an instrument to play by filling out an exploration form and a registration form. Fifth-grade students and families, look for a Skylert from the middle school this week that contains links to those forms or get them by emailing Ms. Planer directly for more information.

  • Families may rent band instruments from Eckroth Music or Al Asmus Band Instruments.
  • Families may use or find their own instruments if they are of good quality. An instrument repair shop can help inspect and repair instruments if needed, but please contact Ms. Planer if interested in this option.
  • Inquire about renting a school-owned instrument. We have a limited supply.

There will be a Beginning Band Zoom Night for Parents and Families on Monday, May 17, at 7:00 p.m. The link for this meeting is in the middle school Skylert or you may email Ms. Planer to request it.

If you have any questions about either band or choir and how your student may participate, please reach out to Ms. Planer. She and Mr. Lathe cannot wait to have students join them in music!
