Welcome Back to Mississippi Heights Elementary for the 2026-2027 School Year!
Dear Mississippi Heights Elementary Families,
Welcome to the 2026-2027 School Year at Mississippi Heights Elementary School!
We are very excited to get this school year started and are eager to see the children back in the building. We want it to be a great experience for you and your child. Please review this information:
Open House:
We are looking forward to meeting you and your child at Open House. You will have the opportunity to meet with your child’s teacher to learn a bit about the year. Open House night is on Wednesday, August 26, 2026. These are scheduled appointments that you make by going onto your Skyward account (please see the directions).
- The time slots are for 15-20 minutes, and you can expect to share this time slot with 2-3 other families. Teachers appreciate being able to have time to connect with each of you.
- The Back to School packet of forms is in Skyward. Please go to your child’s Skyward account to complete those forms before the first day of school.
- Please bring all school supplies that were requested. We are also asking all students to have a water bottle each day; please label it.
First Days of School:
We will have a staggered start to the school year as students return to school. The first day of school for Kindergarten students only is Monday, August 31. Everyone (K-5) will be in the building on Tuesday, September 1.
Start and End Times:
A few procedures to be aware of as we start the year include:
- Students that eat breakfast need to arrive by 7:20 AM. All students must arrive by 7:30 AM. Any child arriving at or after 7:30 AM is late for the school day and will need to be dropped off at door 1.
- Drop-off is at door 15 in the Safety Zone. The door unlocks at 7:15 AM; please do not drop off prior to that time.
- Kidstop offers a morning program for any families that would need care for their child in the morning. Please contact Kidstop to register - 320-257-5437.
- The end of the day is at 2:15 PM.
- Buses will leave the school at 2:22 PM each day.
- For returning students, it is expected that they have their bus card from last year. If it has been lost or damaged you can request a replacement card here. New students will pick up their bus cards at Open House.
- If you are picking up your child, we call this area our Safety Zone. Please know that in the Safety Zone, children’s safety is our greatest priority. Everyone must be patient and follow the procedures listed:
- There are 2 pick-up lines in the Safety Zone. Grades K-2 will enter the lot on the right side; Grades 3-5 will enter on the left and circle around the lot. If you have multiple children, please go to the line of the youngest child. (See this map.)
- Stay in your car to pick up your child. Do not park and walk up to get your child or ask them to go find you. The front visitor parking lot is only for school vans after school.
- Children need to be picked up before 2:30 PM each day.
- Any requests from parents to change the end-of-day transportation need to be made by calling the office before 1:40 PM. Any time later, and we cannot guarantee we will be able to reach the teacher to notify the student.
- Safety Zone takes a little longer the first 2 weeks of the school year and then gets faster. Please be patient. Once students learn how to watch and identify their own vehicle, it will go faster. Safety Zone is consistently finished by 2:30 PM by the end of September. To help the line move quickly, all parents will pull as far forward as possible. Do not stop the line when you see your child; students are taught to follow the yellow line down to your parked car. Staff will be there to help.
Lunches
School breakfast and lunch are available free of charge to all families. If you prefer to pack a lunch, please try to pack a healthy lunch ~ no restaurant delivery will be accepted.
